When we go traveling in Australia, Sydney and Melbourne are the usual popular cities that travelers would pick. Unlike other metropolitans, Perth is famous for its laid-back lifestyle where you can spend several hours in the restaurant for lunch, enjoy the sunset on the beach in the evening.
Rottnest Island is located 19km off the coast of Perth City, famous for its cycling and stunning views. Just around 30 minutes ferry ride from Fremantle, you will reach a destination full of transparent blue-green sea water with lots of cute quokkas foraging around.
I had come to this Island with my College friends whose primary agenda was having cycling tour across the whole Island. We had been cycling for a whole day from morning until night, from one end to another end. It was a cloudless, sunny day with wind breeze through from time to time. We had been ridden for a few hours, all of us shouted every time when we saw a new beach, then we found a place in the beachside for resting. We were all amazed by the endless stretches of coastal line and the long curl of sand beside the crystal clean water, clear enough to see its different layers of color, from deep blue to bluish green color, attracting seagulls flying around to smells the scent of fresh sea water. My friends and I should have brought our swim wears with us, it would be a fantastic experience to swim in the emerald colored water of the Island.I put my toes in the water and I screamed OMG!! It feels awesome! It’s hard to describe the feeling with written words.
Another exciting thing to see is Quokka, you can find them nowhere but here, Rottnest Island in western Australia. They are about the size of a domestic cat and they eat many types of vegetation. Visitors were told not to feed them since it may affect their health causing dehydration and malnourishment. This adorable creature has created a craze for visitors to take selfies with them, so are we! You can easily find these pictures on Instagram with the cute facial expression of the Quokkas.
Rottnest Island is also renowned for its beautiful lighthouses, they were built in 1900 which highlights western Australia’s sailing history. We rode up to the hill and we saw the Indian ocean water frames a breathtaking picture of the Island.
The evening sky was painted with this enchanting pink color, after cycling for a whole day, we did not want to move any further with our sore legs. Three of us were sitting down quietly while gazing at this incredible evening scene. The picture cannot tell the beauty of nature. The actual scenery is far more beautiful than what I had captured.
